Debate on Quran originally contained 17000 verses and 12000 verses were dropped

There is a great debate on the issue that the Quran originally contained 17000 verses and that around 12000 were dropped by Abu Bakr, Omar and Uthman, leaving only 6326 verses constituting the Quran that we have today. Below we have put some debates with references. We are not taking any position in this regard. It is just information purposes only.

Why did the Shiites claim that the Quran was altered?

See the Answer:  Shiite doctors, mainly Persian heretics, invented the Imamate or Wilayat concept, which they claimed was the cornerstone or main centerpiece of religion.

Yet, these heretics faced a real problem, a real predicament, namely that the Wilayat or Imamate is not mentioned at all in the Quran.

To overcome the great embarrassment, they invented the big lie that the original Quran contained 17000 verses and that around 12000 were dropped by Abu Bakr, Omar and Uthman, leaving only 6326 verses constituting the Quran that we have.   You see the big lie!

So instead of coming to terms with the falsehood of the Imamate thing, they preferred to adopt the canard that the Quran was altered!!!

Thus, in order to maintain this big lie, they judged the entire Umma as Kaffer, invented other creeds as al Bedaa, Rajaa, Ismat, etc.

THERE IS  ABSOLUTELY NO SHIITE CLAIM THAT THE  PRESENT QORA’AN IN CIRCULATION HAS

BEEN  ALTERED. IT IS THE OPINION OF ALL THE PROMINENT MARAJAS, AYATOLLAHS ANDMOST GREAT SHIA ULEMAS THAT THE PRESENT TEXT IN CIRCULATION  IS ENTIRELY ALLAH’S WORDS AND THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY ADDITION OR ALTERATION.

NOT THAT THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY ATTEM-PT TO DO SO, BUT FAILED,FOR ALLAH GAURA- NTEED ITS SAFETY AND HE  KEEPS HIS WORDS THOSE WHO DO NOT BELEIVE IN THIS CANNOT  BE SAID AS BELEIVER . IT IS ALSO TRUE THAT SOME ISOLATED SUNNI AS WELL AS SHIA ULEMAH DO BELEIVE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ATTEMPT TO TAHREEF BUT MOST BELEIVE IT AS UNSUCCESSFUL OR NOT SURE .

THE PRESENT TEXT  ARE  COPIES FROM THE SAME ORIGINAL WHICH WAS KEPT AT THE MIMBER E NABVI , WAS UPDATED FROM TIME TO TIME AS NEW VERSES WERE REVEALED AND WAS AVAILABLE FOR CONSULTATION AS WELL AS  WERE COPYIED BY SOME SAHABAH.

AS ALLEGED , USMAAN THE THIRD USURPER RULER HAS ABSOLUTELY NO HAND IN THIS TEXT , OF COURSE IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT DURING HIS SUPPRESSIVE  AND DISHONEST RULE  IN WHICH  FAVORITISM WAS AT ITS HIGHEST PEAK , HE ORDERED COLLECTION OF ALL AVAILABLE TEXT WITH THE SAHABAS AND ORDERED IT TO BE  BURNT EXCEPT KEEPING ONE OF HIS OWN COMPILATION.

IT IS WELL KNOWN , REPORTED & PROVED BEYOND DOUBT THAT THE MOTHER OF BELEIVER JANAB E AYESHA WAS VERY ANGRY WITH USMAN, SHE ASKED FOR HER SHARE OF INHERITANCE, TO WHICH USMAAN QUOTED HER OWN FATHERS PLEA THAT ”WE NABI DON’T LEAVE ANY INHERITANCE” .

THIS REPORTEDLY ANGERED HER AND SHE SAID ”THE MAN HAD GONE DISBELEIVER, IS A ‘NATHAL’AND HAVE NO RIGHT TO LIVE (wajibul qatl) IT IS ALSO A FACT THAT SOON ENOUGH HE WAS BRUTALLY KILLED AND MOAVIAH’S, TALHA AND ZUBAIR’S NAMES ARE VERY MUCH IN THE REPORTS RESPONSIBLE IN HIS BRUTAL KILLING. WALLAH AALAM .

You don”t represent the Mazhab of Shiism. You only represent yourself. The Mazhab is represented by the Ulema of Shiism such as Baqer Majlessi of Beharul Anwar, al Kolayni of al Kafi, Tusi, Kashani, al Shaykh al Mufeed and  al Nuri Tabarsi who wrote Faslu al Khetab Fee Uthbat Tahreef Ketab Rab al Arbab, All these Shiite Ulema agree that the Quran was tampered with and altered by the Sahaba.

Of course, I would wish that Shiites reject the canard of Tahreef which did an irreparable damage to the reputation of Shiism, but the evidence is unfortunately too overwhelming to the contrary.

Hadeeth: 17,000 verses in the Qur’aan, authentic?

The strongest and most “authentic” hadeeth that has circled around the internet that might allude to the Qur’aan undergoing some sort of “taHreef” (distortion) is a hadeeth narrated in Al-Kaafi. But is it really “authentic”?

Here is the hadeeth:

Aboo `Abd Allaah said: “The Qur’aan that Jibra’eel brought to Muhammad had 17,000 verses.”

Source:

  1. Al-Kulayni, Al-Kaafi, vol. 2, Kitaab FaDl Al-Qur’aan, Ch. Rare Traditions, pg. 634, hadeeth # 28

Grading:

  1. Al-Majlisi said this hadeeth is Muwaththaq (Reliable)
    –> Mir’aat Al-`Uqool, vol. 12, pg. 525
  2. Al-Majlisi I (Al-Majlisi’s Father) said this hadeeth is SaHeeH (Authentic)

–> RawDah Al-Muttaqoon, vol. 10, pg. 21

  1. Hoor Al-`Aamilee said this hadeeth is SaHeeH (Authentic)

–> Al-Fuwaa’id Al-Toosiyyah, topic # 96, pg. 483

Here are Al-Majlisi’s comments after he has graded this hadeeth in his Mir’aat Al-`Uqool: “The khabar (hadeeth) is SaHeeH and it is obvious that this hadeeth and other SaHeeH ones like it are clear about the Qur’aan being shortened and changed, and in my opinion, this is mutaawatir in meaning, and discarding these narrations would lead us to rejecting all akhbaar (narrations) in general.”
