Quran Mentions People of the Book
(In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful, all praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger)
The Holy Quran mentions a lot of narratives about old civilizations and people that were subject to the messengers of Allah Almighty. These messengers wanted these people to leave the evil ways of living and pay heed to the word of Allah Almighty, and who ever did not listen, faced the wrath of the Almighty.
Among these messengers, some were blessed as to carry the word of Allah Almighty in the form of a Holy Book. Four heavenly books were descended from the heavens to guide mankind. Quran refers the followers of these messengers as the people of the book.
“Mankind was one single nation, and Allah sent Messengers with glad tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the book in truth, to judge between people in matters wherein they differed; but the people of the book, after the clear Signs came to them did not differ among themselves, except through selfish contumacy. Allah by His Grace guided the believers to the Truth concerning that wherein they differed. For Allah guides whom He will to a path that is straight.” (Surah Al-Baqara)
The people of the book are the Christians, Jews, and the Muslims. Christians were given the Gospel (Bible), and Jews were given the Torah, and Muslims were given the Holy book of Quran. But as Allah states in the Holy Quran that the people were not very receptive towards the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW), despite knowing that he was truthful about the prophecies.
“Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the book all the signs (together) they would not follow thy Qiblah; nor art thou going to follow their Qiblah; nor indeed will they follow each other’s Qiblah. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, wert to follow their (vain) desiresâ•then wert thou indeed (clearly) in the wrong.” (Surah Al-Baqara)
The Jews and the Christians are not united amongst each other even. They hold different beliefs attributed to the tampering that the thoughtful believed they could do at that time. Religious monopoly is one thing that Allah Almighty forbids greatly.
“The people of the book know this as they know their own sons; but some of them conceal the truth which they themselves know.” (Surah Al-Baqara) (Quran Online)
Allah Almighty even addresses the others with verses like these and talks about concealing the truth.
“Ye people of the book! Why do ye clothe truth with falsehood, and conceal the Truth while ye have knowledge?” (Surah Aal-e-Imran)
The books as the ones that came before the Holy Quran contained the same teachings as the Quran does; only Quran is more proper and concise and complete. Quran Online is a resource available on the internet from where one can learn how to read and memorize the Quran via Internet.
May Allah guide us with the right choices and the right information to be successful in this world and the next.
