Rely on God, what does it mean?
Probably the “rely on God” is a least understood and most misunderstood issue unfortunately!
[The Quran 39:38] If you ask them, “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will say, “GOD.” Say, “Why then do you set up idols beside GOD? If GOD willed any adversity for me, can they relieve such an adversity? And if He willed a blessing for me, can they prevent such a blessing?” Say, “GOD is sufficient for me.” In Him the trusters shall trust.
God possibly here is talking about financial implications related to marriage and divorce. So, after hard working and trying your best rely on financial issues in God.
[The Quran 65:3] And will provide for him whence he never expected. Anyone who trusts in GOD, He suffices him. GOD’s commands are done. GOD has decreed for everything its fate.
Even for our daily provisions we have to work hard and not relying on God without working!
[The Quran 62:10] Once the (Jumuah) prayer is completed, you may spread through the land to seek GOD’s bounties, and continue to remember GOD frequently, that you may succeed.
Even during salat we must be very careful and vigilant against our enemies. We cannot stand on salat give up our weapons and rely on Allah alone for our safety!
[The Quran 4:102] When you are with them, and lead the Contact Prayer (Salat) for them, let some of you stand guard; let them hold their weapons, and let them stand behind you as you prostrate. Then, let the other group that has not prayed take their turn praying with you, while the others stand guard and hold their weapons. Those who disbelieved wish to see you neglect your weapons and your equipment, in order to attack you once and for all. You commit no error, if you are hampered by rain or injury, by putting down your weapons, so long as you remain alert. GOD has prepared for the disbelievers a shameful retribution.
We have to work hard with our money and with our all possible means for our self-defense.
[The Quran 8:60] You shall prepare for them all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilize, that you may frighten the enemies of GOD, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; GOD knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of GOD will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice.
You have to work and take your own decision.
[The Quran 13:11] …GOD does not change the condition of any people unless they themselves make the decision to change…
For example, a farmer must have to plough his land, implant the seeds of rice or wheat etc., take care against weed, put fertilizer and pesticides if necessary then he can hope to get a good harvest.
But still sudden and unexpected drought, flood, hailstorm etc. can damage his crops and these things are totally beyond his control. So, after doing all those hard work he must now rely on God on such uncontrolled issues. So, in this way ultimately God controls all outcomes and we do not have any independent power.
It is the right way to understand, “Rely on Allah”. Because when God created us He decides us to give some power (temporarily) so why God always should help/protect you on affairs for which you can work and protect/help yourself? After all God does not create you as a dumb robot. You are a human being. So, if any adversity or disaster come to your life for your negligence, laziness, lack of hard working and prudent thinking you are responsible for that, and not God.
